Homes for the Brave is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with the mission to provide housing and services necessary to help Veterans and other individuals experiencing homelessness return to productive and meaningful lives. We operate three housing programs in Bridgeport: Homes for the Brave, a 42-bed transitional housing program for men; Female Soldiers:  Forgotten Heroes, a 14-bed transitional housing program for women and their young children; and Waldorf House, a 9-bed permanent supportive housing program for formerly homeless individuals.

In addition to our housing programs, we offer services to the wider Veteran community, including a walk-in Veterans’ Service Center, which offers a wide variety of programming throughout the month including therapy dog visits, meetings with Veteran representatives from federal legislators’ offices, movie afternoons, walking groups, and hosting AA meetings. The Training for Success Vocational & Educational Program offers employment and educational services along with job prep workshops and computer skill classes. In 2019, the Homes for the Brave Clinical Program launched to address the gap in services for mental health and substance abuse needs for homeless Veterans. Clinical programming includes access to recovery-oriented therapy.

Our organization whole-heartedly believes that it is essential to serve others with honesty, integrity, empathy, respect, and patience. The staff at HFTB work hard to foster a non-judgmental environment that encourages clients to develop personal responsibility in taking ownership in their journey towards independence.
